Policy
Parishes in the archdiocese will now invite all persons between ages 13-18 to participate
in a process of Confirmation and liturgical preparation. It will no longer be a grade level time for the moment. You will now discern the readiness of your youth during these six years and pick the moment in prayer and conversation with your youth. It is a prerequisite that your youth is already participating in the faith formation being offered by the Parish as they discern the moment.
We offer Confirmation for all youth 13-18 in a seperate catechetical moment outside of the Sunday morning faith formation process offered by the Parish.
A Schedule and letter will be mailed to all youth that are at the required age (13-18) in late summer of the year inviting them to discern their readiness to be sealed with the Holy Spirit and to be a full and active participant in the parishes many ministries and actions of charity and justice.
Any youth between the ages of 13-18 at this time will come forward and begin preparation in our parish confirmation process. If you do not respond at the beginning stages of our sacramental preparation you will begin the next year. Due to the involvement and commitment to the program, your presence is necessary from the very first session.
If candidates have too many unexpected events that require them to miss many sessions they will continue preparation the next year. It is a process requiring personal conversion and making all the sessions a priority.
It is expected that youth (13-18) be in attendance of a faith formation process the year prior to answering the call to be confirmed and entering into our Confirmation program. Unless new to the Church, a youth (13-18) must be in attendance at our Faith Formation progarm or attend a Catholic school. If new, you must have been attending another parish Faith Formation program or Catholic School.
With the help of the Confirmation Candidates and families in their call to ask for God's grace, we as a parish will:
- Make it an experience of personal conversion and importance
- Allow whole parish involvement
- Emphasize Gods grace as an effective and powerful presence
- Remove it from an age and make it a moment of conversion
