Jesus gave the disciples bread-blessed-broken and cup-blessed-poured out..."Take and eat this is my Body... take and drink this is my blood". Receiving and eating the Body and Blood of Christ, we are called to give the Body and Blood to our brothers and sisters in Holy Communion. Also, in the early Christian community those who were not able to participate in the Sunday Eucharist because of illness or some kind of infirmity, members of the community would carry the Holy Eucharist to their home to communicate the Body and Blood of the Lord with the infirm. The administration of Holy Communion during Mass is truly a ministry. It is the ministry of bringing the sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ to the People of God. It is also the ministry of witnessing to faith in the real presence of Christ in the action of sharing in the Eucharist meal of Christ's sacrifice. In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers for Holy Communion so that it can be distributed in an orderly and reverent manner.
